Public infrastructure is vital to the economic and social health of jurisdictions all over the world. To a large degree, it is the foundation of a society’s quality of life.   Countries, provinces, states and cities everywhere are struggling with the challenges associated with ensuring public infrastructure is modern, adequate and supports their economic and social goals.

On October 13, 2006, the government of Ontario brought together leaders from various sectors for a one-day event, Building the Future: Leaders’ Forum on Infrastructure. Hosted by David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, leading experts from around the world met to discuss critical questions about the future of public infrastructure and the challenges faced by all jurisdictions.

In a keynote address, John Wright, senior vice-president, Ipsos-Reid, presented the results of its first-ever national public opinion poll on Canadians’ attitudes on infrastructure in their communities and their province.
