Parliamentary Assistant

photoPhil McNeely was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. McNeely has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation.

He began his career in politics as a member of Ottawa City Council, representing one of Canada’s fastest-growing communities. He supported residents concerned with the pollution threats of factory farming, paved the way for the national farmer relief program, known as Hay West, and helped to bring an arts facility to the area. He has demonstrated his ability to work with colleagues and other levels of government to make things happen. McNeely also fought for his constituents on tough issues such as the Petrie Island Beach, an inner ring road for Ottawa versus an outer ring road and fair hydro prices for all residents. He also succeeded in securing $45 million to fix the 417/174 ‘split’, championed an amendment to ban retail tobacco powerwall advertising, and has been a strong voice for environmental concerns.

Before entering politics, he was the owner and chief executive officer of a successful engineering firm, McNeely Engineering. In this capacity he worked closely with municipal councils and government agencies to consult with affected citizens on numerous projects. McNeely is fluently bilingual and is a professional engineer.

Born in Cumberland, he attended Lisgar Collegiate and graduated from McGill University with a BEng. He earned the equivalent of a master’s degree in engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, England. McNeely and his wife, Anna Marie, live in Ottawa-Orléans. They have three sons and a grandson.
