Ontario Small Waterworks Assistance Program (OSWAP)

Small Water System Entitlement-based Grant Program

photoOSWAP is the first part of a new $40-million funding program announced by the McGuinty government in August 2007 as part of its ongoing commitment to support small communities and to ensure Ontario’s drinking water is safe, clean and affordable.

Through OSWAP, the province will provide a total of $8 million over five years to municipalities and LSBs with public drinking water systems serving 1,000 or fewer residents. This funding will assist with drinking water system operating costs.

Expressions of interest for OSWAP were accepted between August 31, 2007 and October 31, 2007. The province issued the first year of OSWAP funding early in 2008 to the 75 communities that met eligibility and executed provincial contribution agreements.

The province is developing criteria for the second portion ($32 million) of the program, which will provide further assistance to municipalities and LSBs serving small populations.
