For years, government spending on infrastructure lagged behind growth. This had a real impact on the quality of life for Ontarians.

Schools were crumbling and some hospitals were facing closure. Inadequate transit systems and aged courthouses were falling behind the needs of our changing communities.

In short, Ontario’s infrastructure was unable to meet the needs of the 21st century.

ReNew Ontario, introduced in May 2005, is a $30-billion plus, five-year plan to upgrade Ontario’s infrastructure. This is the first long-term infrastructure strategy in the province’s history.

Today, Ontario is a leader in modernizing its public infrastructure. Seeing the need to connect long-term infrastructure investments and growth planning, the province has taken an integrated approach to renewing Ontario’s hospitals, schools, roads and public transit.

By the end of the fiscal year 2007-08, the Province’s ReNew Ontario investment will be more than $18 billion.

ReNew Ontario 2007 gives a snapshot of progress to date.
